Close to half-a-million dollars will be handed out in prize money across two days of racing spanning 15 events.
Club secretary/manager Rob Tweedie said the $430,000 prize pool was drawing plenty of attention from NSW trainers and even Sydney and Melbourne, but country trainers won’t be left in the lurch.
“The maiden race is for $40,000, but it’s exclusive for the smaller trainers and country NSW, the city trainers won’t be able to secure that,” Mr Tweedie said.
The headline Bega Cup will boast a $50,000 prize pool, while there is also a $40,000 sprint and $35,000 2200m run.
The club is also hosting a qualifying leg of the SERA fashions on the field.
Golf
A good field of Bombala golfers braved the extreme heat on Saturday for an 18 Hole Chicken Run. One of the lads was heard to say that if “he has to work in it might as well play in it”. The scores were good with Joel Cherry winning with 46 pts. Runner up was Wayne Elton 42 pts. NTP: on the 13th was Joel Cherry.
On Sunday a large field played a 9 Hole Chicken Run in very hot conditions. Must be the chicken handicaps or a lot of run with some good scores being recorded. Herbie Elliott was the chicken winner with 24 pts from Brad Yelds 23 pts. Both chaps took home chooks.
