It was only about a year ago that the Times ran a story about the quality of Bombala’s water.
One year down the track, residents are still having to contend with dirty brown water coming out of their household taps.
Early last year, resident Jen Farrell started an online petition at change.org calling for action from the regional council to provide clean water in Bombala that was signed by more than 200 people.
The petition was started not long after the Snowy Monaro Regional Council approved a combined $2million worth of upgrades to the water and sewage treatment plants in Bombala and Delegate.
The council allocated the funding to upgrade the treatment plants in Bombala and Delegate following an emergency in December 2016 where the Bombala water supply was below acceptable Australian standards and council where ‘nearly’ issued with a government boil all water warning.
According to Council Administrator at the time, Dean Lynch, “We averted the water warning by immediately getting staff down to the Collumbooka treatment plant where they replaced the intake valve with a new one.”
Council’s Director Operations and Infrastructure, Suneil Adhikari said that now council was aware of the issue, flushing had taken place to rectify the issue.
“This problem was relieved in a day,” he said.
Mr Adhikari said that if residents have in queries about the quality of Bombala’s water, they should contact council and report the matter.
Council flushed the pipes on Monday and the problem appears to have improved since then.
Work is on going at the plant and last year the electrical control system was upgraded.
