Last weeks Golden Oldie supplied by David Ferry was of the Balmain Brother's Garage which was located in Maybe Street, Bombala.
The Bombala business was owned by Balmain Brothers from Cooma.
There was much debate on Facebook whether the Balmain Brothers business was actually in Bombala with some people thinking it was the Cooma outlet and others thinking it may have been a Bega business.
We can assure readers that the business was indeed the Bombala branch of Balmain Brothers.
Anyway, the names of the good looking fellows in last week’s photo are Jerry Kilbern (the boss), Charlie Groves, (mechanic), Gordon Ingram, (second year apprentice), Horace Wilson, (shop and bowser attendant) and Glen Toms (head mechanic).
In later years the Balmain Brothers, Bombala business became Auto Pro Bombala.
Bombala newsagent and member of the Bombala Historical Society, Dave Goodyer was there when the building was burnt to the ground on April 13, 2012.
He managed to snap a few photos which can be seen online.
This week the Golden Oldie photo was taken in 1972 and it is of St. Joseph Primary School, Bombala, students from years 4, 5 and 6 classes.
Do you recognise anyone in this photo?
We’d love to hear from if you do.
We are also always on the look out for interesting old photos that we can publish as the Golden Oldie.
