Council has contacted residents, asking for their feedback on the potential introduction of domestic waste and recycling kerbside collections. The proposal is to provide residents of Bredbo, Nimmitabel and Michelago with a weekly waste collection service and fortnightly recyclables collection.
Council plans to introduce these services in a bid to reduce travel times and costs for residents accessing Council’s resource and waste facilities.
Council is unable to offer this service on a discretionary basis, due to operational costs. However, if there is enough support from these communities, a kerbside waste and recycling collection will be introduced.
The proposed service would include a 120 litre waste bin to be serviced weekly and a 360 litre recycling bin to be serviced fortnightly. Council will also seek feedback on a food and garden organic collection service which may be provided in the future.
Residents in the three villages, as well as those living along the main routes between Cooma and the villages, will be surveyed to ascertain interest in the proposal.
Surveys have been mailed to residents in the proposed villages, and can be found at Council’s offices, resource and waste facilities, and at the below link.
As a guide, the annual collection charges for domestic kerbside recycling and waste charge is $339 per annum as set out in Council’s current fees and charges. This is in addition to the $101 waste management charge that is currently charged to all rateable properties. Further detail on the kerbside services can be found by visiting Council’s website.
