I raised in my Mayoral Minute the possibility of Council establishing two committees to help shorten the length of Council meetings. The proposed committees would be (i) Planning committee – to deal with planning matters through the Environmental Services department and (ii) Operations committee – to deal with issues related to the Operations and Infrastructure department. These committees would meet monthly and have five councillors and myself sit on them.

Council resolved to authorise $20,000 to fund a joint feasibility study with the Snowy Mountains Engineering Corporation (SMEC), to investigate the viability of the fluid laboratory.

A waste management committee will be established to investigate efficiencies in Council’s waste management operations, services, and facilities. Sitting on this committee will be councillors Rogan Corbett, James Ewart and Deputy Mayor Lynley Miners.

There has been plenty of discussion regarding water in Bombala. Council staff have been responding to residents’ inquiries. Recent testing has found that the water quality meets the Australian Water Drinking Guidelines. The cloudy water is the result of hydrant flushing that is needed to remove any sediment that’s settled in the mains and to ensure spring hydrant units (fire hydrants) are operational in case of fires or other emergencies. 

Council staff are working hard to ensure Bombala and Delegate residents have access to clear drinking water.
