Police Beat: South Coast Police District reports, March 13


South Coast District Police are investigating a stealing incident that occurred at a grocery store in Tathra on Monday morning, March 12.

A male person entered the store around 8am and asked for some cigarettes. He was handed a packet by the attendant, grabbed them and fled.

Police are investigating and anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.


At 10.30pm on Saturday, March 10, Merimbula Police were patrolling Arthur Kaine Drive, Merimbula.

A white Hilux utility was stopped from a roadside breath test.

The driver, a 30-year-old male, was breath tested with a positive result for alcohol.

He was arrested and taken to Merimbula Police Station.

He was charged with mid range PCA and will appear at Bega Local Court on March 27.


Police have arrested and charged a 15-year-old male with several property offences after alleged incidents in the Wallaga Lake area on March 11 and 12.

He has been charged with two counts of break and enter, two of trespass, intimidation and malicious damage.

He was refused bail and will appear at Bega Children’s Court on March 13.


South Coast District Police conducted an operation over the weekend of March 10-11, targeting drug and alcohol offences in the Batemans Bay, Moruya and Narooma areas.

A drug detection dog was also utilised.

374 driver roadside breath tests were conducted. One driver was detected with mid range PCA and charged at Batemans Bay Police Station Saturday afternoon.

There were five detections for cannabis. The drugs were located during vehicle searches.

Also a quantity of MDMA was seized at a Moruya hotel and a 24-year-old Denhams Beach man has been charged with supplying prohibited drug.

A 34-year-old man has been charged with assaulting police, resisting arrest and offensive language after an incident outside a hotel in Batemans Bay around midnight on March 9.

A 29-year-old female has also been issued criminal infringement notices for offensive language and remaining in the vicinity of a licensed premises when excluded.
