Last Friday, I had the pleasure of welcoming the Consul-General of Japan, Keizo Takewaka to our beautiful Snowy Monaro region. We were joined by president of the Cooma Lions Club Bob Weston for a special meeting. Our region enjoys a strong sister-city relationship with Yamaga in Japan that has been going for 44 years.

I accompanied Mr Takewaka on a tour of the Snowy Hydro control room. We were both very impressed with the setup. Did you know two men control the 5500 megawatts of electricity that is generated?
It was very enjoyable hosting Mr Takewaka and showcasing the region to him.
On Saturday I joined hundreds of people for the 150th anniversary celebrations of Michelago Public School. The Michelago community turned on another great event as we welcomed former teachers and students to the school. From the food to the music, the organisers did a fantastic job.
Michelago Public School is a terrific asset and I commend principal Claire Plummer and her students for all their hard work.
If you’re staying home this Easter weekend, I encourage you to enjoy the many events on offer. Cooma will host the 70th anniversary of the Land Rover, with close to 1000 Land Rovers on display. A street parade through Sharp St is one of the event’s highlights from 10am. This will be a fantastic boost to the region’s economy with thousands visiting the Snowy Monaro.
The Jindabyne Lake Light Sculpture is gearing up for its biggest year yet. Sculptures will line the Lake Jindabyne foreshore and with thousands expected to attend the event, this will be another great boost for the region. Don’t forget the Berridale and Adaminaby Easter Fairs on Sunday. These are great community events. There is so much do in our great region. Please take on the roads and drive to the condition. I wish you and your family a safe and happy Easter.
