Several posts on Bega Valley-based “buy, swap and sell” Facebook pages have appeared in recent days, worryingly sharing very similar stories about particular vehicle descriptions and other suspicious behaviour.
Detective Inspector Peter Volf of the South Coast Police District said they were taking seriously the reports that had been made to Bega police and are investigating.
He said, while it’s not necessarily related, police have received reports of two missing dogs in recent days.
While some rumours around dog fighting rackets do the rounds on social media, Inspector Volf said police had no indications or reports of any organised dog fights in the area.
He said if anyone had information about dogs being stolen, or other suspicious activity around local properties, they should contact Bega Police immediately with details on 6492 9999, or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Alternatively, concerns about animal mistreatment can also be reported to the RSPCA on 1300 CRUELTY (1300 278 358).
