A group of passionate locals have fought hard to bring the film to town. Glenn Cotter encourages members of the public to purchase their tickets online as the movie will be one that you should not miss.
A conversation will take place at Club Sapphire after the screening, to talk about the effects of suicide.
“The whole idea of bringing this film to town is to encourage people to talk about it [suicide] and start a conversation about the consequences,” Mr Cotter said.
“We are looking forward to it and are really excited by it.
“We hope that this will be the first of many things in the future that we can do to promote the conversation and continue to look at ways of supporting those in times of crisis.”
After watching this movie it will benefit people and help them to understand what results an action can cause...
- Glenn Cotter
Mr Cotter urged the importance to understand “the ripple effect” suicide has on the community, “the guilt and consequences left behind after that one action”.
Without revealing too much of the plot, the film is the true story of Kevin Hines, who at the age of 19 attempted to take his life by jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge.
Seventeen years later, he still struggles with mental health issues and is on a mission to use his story to help others stay alive.
Mr Cotter said the movie has received some “flack from mental health groups” as “it is a little bit confronting”.
It is recommended anyone under the age of 18 to be accompanied by an adult.
Mr Cotter encourages everyone to come along to the informal question and answer session at Club Sapphire from 8pm after the movie.
“We are extremely lucky to have Ian Campbell hosting the conversation afterwards where four mental health representatives including myself will form part of the panel,” Mr Cotter said.
Representatives from The Rural Adversity Mental Health Program, Teen Clinic and Grand Pacific Health will also be there on the night.
Mr Cotter expressed his gratitude to The Picture Show Man, Club Sapphire and dentist Craig Newman for their support.
