The engaged parents of 18-month-old twins Lenny and Layla are among the couples tackling the sixth season of Australia’s biggest renovation show House Rules, which screens its first episode on Channel 7 Monday night.
Sixth-generation dairy farmer Toad said he’s used to “hard yakka” but his skills don’t extend past the milking yard, while Mandy works at home as a beauty therapist.
“I’m hopeless at building. We haven’t got a clue what we are in for,” Toad quipped in his House Rules promo interview.
“Mandy’s got a good eye for design. I’m positive she can bring home the bikkie tin.”
The home they are looking to renovate into something more suitable to their young family is a 150-year-old run-down former inn with no insulation.
“We only have one bathroom in the house. And, to get to it, we have to walk across the deck and, in minus six degrees, it’s not very nice,” Mandy said.
Having both been brought up in the country, Toad and Mandy are keen to give their children the same upbringing.
“I love this house; I think it’s a great spot to bring up kids,” Toad said.
“But it isn’t practical for a modern-day family.”
Hosted by Johanna Griggs, House Rules will see seven teams gambling with the most important possession in their lives. To win the ultimate prize, they will have to completely renovate seven houses in only seven weeks.
Together, the teams will travel the country, hand over the keys to their homes and leave their opposition to transform every room in their house.
They must draw on all their creative talents, determination and strategy to produce breathtaking reveals that impress not only the home owners but the judges.
International design star Laurence LlewelynBowen or LLB, as he is affectionately known, is back, bigger and bolder than before, along with acclaimed architect and builder Drew Heath; and one of Australia’s foremost experts on style and design, Wendy Moore.
The two teams left standing will face-off in an epic grand final for a chance to win a life-changing prize.
House Rules will launch for South Coast viewers on Prime7 at 7.30pm Monday, May 7. It continues nightly to Thursday and then Sunday from 7pm.
