Bombala plays Cooma rugby league report

The Bombala Blue Heelers hosted the Cooma Stallions Rugby League Club in three grades of football – First grade, League Tag and Reserves on Sunday.

Every player for Bombala dug deep and played a great game against a good football team.

First grade defeated Cooma 22-18; High Heelers League Tag defeated Cooma 34 to 0 and the Reserves were defeated by an undefeated Cooma side 34 to 6.

Bombala Blue Heelers Rugby League Club president, Colin Ryan said, The first grade game was a tough one.

“We came from behind and toughed it out which was a good thing.

“There were some very good players including Blake Robinson, Boro Navori and Luke Ingram who had a fantastic game after playing in Monaro U23s then backed up for Bombala being awarded Players Player.

“The ladies were very dominant. They were fantastic again and totally outclassed the Cooma girls,” he said.

“The Reserves had a tough game, Cooma were just too good,” he said.

First to play were the Bombala High Heelers League Tag women who started well scoring the first try just minutes in to the game.  The High Heelers continued their good form and defeated the Cooma Fillies.

Players Player was shared between Amy Stone and Kayley Keavey; three points to Kayley Keavey, two points to captain Maree Coates and one point to Abbey Kimber.

The Reserves were next on the field taking on an undefeated Cooma team in what was to be a tough and challenging game.

“Every player for Bombala dug deep and played a great game against a good football team,” captain coach Murray Jackson said.

Players Player and three points went to Chris Halligan, two points to Ben Mooney and one point to Charlie Piesley.

Bombala First Grade were determined to continue their winning start to the season against the Cooma Stallions, however the game didn’t start as planned with two tries to Cooma in the first 10 minutes.

It wasn’t too long before Bombala’s Luke Ingram  scored first points for the Heelers and with an unsuccessful conversion, the boys trailed 12-4. Blake Robinson scored next which was converted by Wame, however Cooma scored again just before half time to lead 18 to 10. Good play by Bombala in the second half led to Bombala winning 22 to 18.

Players Player and 3 points to Luke Ingram, 2 to Adam Rodwell and 1 to Boro Navori.
