I had the honour of being invited to take part in a role-playing scenario, where I, as Mayor, had my safety compromised. I was informed that I was the first Mayor to take part in a scenario of this nature. These exercises offer invaluable training for our cadets as they prepare for duties overseas. The cadets have visited community groups and local schools, where they have been well received.
Last Thursday, Council met for its second meeting of the month. The meeting was held in Bombala. Council voted in favour of expanding the kerbside waste and recycling collection for the towns of Michelago, Bredbo, and Nimmitabel. Residential properties on route to these towns may also be eligible for a collection. Further information will be provided to residents.
Council overturned a decision regarding Alcohol Free Zones in Jindabyne and Cooma. Council had originally voted against the implementation of AFZs but following a motion put forward last meeting, Councillors voted in favour of adopting AFZs for a trial period through the winter season.
Council has also changed the process for community groups/events to request donations and sponsorships from Council. Council will now consider submissions twice yearly. If you have a donation request for the period from July – December 2018, then you will need to make your submissions between June 1 and June 30. Please visit Council’s website for further information.
Finally, a reminder that Council’s draft Delivery Program 2018-21, Operational Plan 2019 and Schedule of Fees and Charges 2019 are on public exhibition. Community drop in sessions have been held in Jindabyne and Cooma already. A session is on this evening from 5.30pm-6.30pm in Bombala at the Bombala Council Chambers.
