On Wednesday, Bombala resident and water meeting convener Alison Gimbert, former Bombala Council water employee Ossie Benson and industrial chemist and Bombala publican Virginia Webster met with Snowy Monaro Regional Council councillors and council employees for a presentation about the quality of Bombala’s water and council’s plan to rectify the problems.
“Council’s Water and Wastewater manager, Mark Rixon, gave a power-point demonstration that was very good,” Ms Gimbert said.
“It showed what was wrong with the water treatment plant when council took over, then it listed the work that Snowy Monaro Regional Council had already completed, followed by a list of things they still have to do to get it right.
“It was a really good presentation,” she said. “The presentation explained really clearly what has happened and what still needs to be done.”
Ms Gimbert said that she had a copy of the presentation that she planned to share with the town people soon.
“Council has now sent an Expression of Interest to Mr Barilaro about obtaining the $15 million he offered at the first water meeting, so they’re moving on that,” Ms Gimbert said.
“But I won’t let them rest on their laurels and I did tell council, if they had been more transparent, we would not have had to have all these meetings.
“On the agenda of things for council to do is to put another medium into the filter system to get rid of the taste and smell.
“They have also applied to sink a bore in the Delegate area and there is talk of trying to find bore water around the Bombala area.
“We are appreciative of council’s efforts so far,” she said.
