“The Monaro Service Award is a small way of thanking volunteers for what they do,” Mr Barilaro said.
“These people go above and beyond the definition of their role with little recognition to make the community they live in a better place. The award recipients are dedicated to their calling and make a difference to the local community and I congratulate and thank them for their efforts.”
Bombala paramedic Sandra Lavender was described at the awards ceremony “as one of those people who is always on the look out for those in her community who may need a helping hand”.
“When a fellow paramedic, Josh Burke was involved in a serious motor vehicle incident in December last year, Sandra immediately offered her support and created a fundraising page to support Josh and his family during his recovery.
“Through Mrs Lavender’s committed fundraising and generous donations from members of the community, over $58,000 was raised for Josh and his family,” Mr Barilaro said.
President of the Bombala and District Chamber of Commerce, Zoe Joseph was also recognised on the day for her service to the Bombala community where she is dedicated to working with the broader community to ensure business owners and community members have a voice.
Delegate Hotel’s Sunday Sips have been supporting the Delegate Community for years, providing an opportunity for catch-ups between locals while fundraising for local community groups.
