As it turned out, it wasn’t a good day for the Heelers with the women’s game cut short due to a serious injury sustained by a Narooma player in the second half.
The Reserves’ score didn’t reflect their performance on the field, losing to Narooma 36 to 6, while the first grade had a tough game, losing to Narooma 26 to 14.
Bombala Blue Heelers Rugby League Club president Col Ryan said first grade had opportunities but let them go.
“Narooma were a far more enthusiastic team on the day,” he said.
“The Reserves were all over the place as normal, with the ladies being the better side on the day.
“The High Heelers had to battle hard as Narooma are a pretty good side,” he said.
“The first graders have to stop making fundamental mistakes. When they make a mistake it puts them on the back foot and the pressure is on.
“You can’t make mistakes,” Ryan said.
It was an early start with the High Heelers kicking off against the She Devils at 10am, taking an early lead.
The High Heelers were playing a good game and were leading 24 to 12 when the game was cut short 8 minutes before the end due to a serious injury to Narooma’s Lilly Bennett.
“The club would like to wish Lilly all the best with her recovery.”
Georgie Clarke was Player’s Player with three points going to captain Maree Coates, two points to Amy Stone and one point to Monique Perkins.
The Bombala Reserves game didn’t start well with the Blue Heelers finding themselves down 12–0 after 20 minutes. The final score was 36-6 with Narooma taking the win.
Player’s Player and three points went to Luke Mould, two points to Slade Newston and one point to Mitch Farrell.
First grade were next to kick off, coming off the back of a close loss last week they were looking to return to the winners circle, but it wasn’t to be.
The game started with some solid defence from both teams. Bombala had some attacking opportunities on Narooma’s line, but with their solid defence Bombala were unable to break through and score.
The half time score was 12 to 4 in favour of Narooma. The second half didn’t start as planned for the Heelers with Narooma scoring two tries in quick succession extending their lead to 26-4.
Working hard, Bombala’s Tevita Badago scored under the posts with Blake Robinson successful conversion, Bombala were trailing 26-10. Joel Grewar was next to score out wide for the Heelers and the game ended 26-14.
Three points and Player’s Player went to Boro Navori, two points were shared between Micheal Wykes and Wame and one point between Adam Rodwell and Joel Grewar
