The distribution of Stage 1 of the Tathra and District Bushfire Mayoral Appeal Fund is nearing completion.
This initial stage was for owner/occupiers and tenants whose homes were destroyed or declared permanently uninhabitable.
Eligible residents were contacted directly by the distribution committee and provided with the necessary application information.
The majority of these applications have now been received and processed.
Bega Valley Shire Council Mayor Kristy McBain said the aim of the fund was always to provide support to those most impacted as quickly as possible.
“We’ve been very happy with the efficiency of this initial allocation and the arrangements and guidelines are nearing finalisation for Stage 2,” she said.
Mayor McBain said the details around Stage 2 and any future stages will be announced by the committee at the appropriate time.
“The unbelievable generosity that has come from right across the country has us in a position to provide this assistance, with the recent Band Together concert a brilliant example of this,” she said.
“Businesses big and small, service clubs, sporting groups, local councils, schools and individuals are among those who have contributed so selflessly and we couldn’t be more thankful.”
Anyone who believes they are eligible for Stage 1 and have not been contacted is encouraged to visit the Recovery Centre, phone 6499 2475, or email MayoralAppealFund@begavalley.nsw.gov.au
