The Pathways Support Program is a free service provided by the Southern Region Business Enterprise Centre (SRBEC) under the Regional VET Pathways initiative, which is funded and supported by the NSW Department of Industry, Skills and Regional Development.

The program assists young people in preparing themselves for work or study and helps them to find employment or enrol into education.

Last month, Pathways Support and SRBEC ran an Employability Skills Workshop that assisted young people gaining skills that will help them enter the workforce.

Some of the topics covered were Personal Presentation, Networking, Canvassing and Interview Skills.

Pathways facilitator, Jae Lear said, it was vital young people have an understanding of what is required of them before and after entering the workforce, how to job search and prepare for employment.

“Pathways support is available to any young person who is 15 to 19 years of age; not currently working or enrolled in school or study; who is seeking employment or further study and is a resident of the Snowy Monaro Region,” Mr Lear said.

“We provide case management tailored to each individual client and identify existing skills and career interests, as well as any barriers to engaging education, training or employment.

“We work with other services including; health, housing, welfare, youth centres, indigenous or cultural groups, community services and refer young people as needed,” he said.

The program helps participants create plans and set goals for transitioning into work or study; teaches how to create professional resumes and apply for jobs.

It also teaches job searching skills and coaching for interviews and interview skills.

“We can assist with finding and enrolling into relevant courses and coach how to approach potential employers,” Mr Lear said.

“The service can also assist with obtaining identification documents, tax file number, bank account, or drivers licences.”
