In a fast encounter at Bemboka’s Colombo Park, the Tigers were able to claim a 2-1 result over their hosts.
The Tigresses had earlier secured a 6-0 win in the women’s fixture.
In the men’s match, play featured some strong attacking runs down the wings for both clubs, while the back lines were putting up some long range high-balls leaving both clubs to scramble for possession in the middle.
Rohan Barber had some good bursts on the right edge for Bemboka early, pairing off with Josh O’Reilly, who featured in both attack and defence on the day.
However, the Wolumla combination of brothers Blake and Wes Rosseland were enough to close out most of the forward momentum from the Braves.
The runs that did break through were largely halted by the combination of Daniel Kennedy and Collin Lee.
Oscar Carratt was valuable to the visitors, playing a versatile role across a few positions, while Matt Grant’s speed was hard to match to work through the middle.
A spokesperson for the Wolumla club said newcomer James Poso did an outstanding job up front alongside Adam Bedford keeping the Bemboka defence on their toes.
As the best attacking side in the competition, the Tigers found a few good opportunities to strike, but some desperate saves by Tom Bobbin kept the Tigers to two.
An unfortunate miss-kick on a dot shot opportunity also kept the Braves in the hunt for a draw.
Drake Mitchell and Mick O’Reilly worked hard in defence for the Braves, while Jamie O’Brien linked up with his wings and mids to work play out of Bemboka’s defensive zone.
Earlier, the Wolumla Tigresses had cruised to a comfortable 6-0 win over the Braves in the women’s fixture.
Despite the strong result, the scoreline could have been higher and was kept down by exceptional goal-keeping from Ellie Williams and good backline play by Hayley Hill and sweeper Daena Saye.
However, even if the ball carrier was forced wide by the Bemboka defence, the Tigresses were an ever-present threat with players pushing for options in front of goals.
Janet King, Chloe Grant, Kayla Wilson, Sam Johnson and Kirsty McPaul were the main attackers in the front lines, while Caitlin Johnson headed up Wolumla’s defensive efforts through the midfield.
The win keeps the Tigresses on track sharing the top of the ladder with the Eden ladies.
