Fans were thrilled to have a chat with the DJR Team Penske driver and spectate as he placed his signature on their favourite Ford items.
Principal dealer of Eden Motor Group and Ford fanatic Con Zurcas thanked McLaughlin for dedicating his time as ambassador.
“It is just great how he comes down and is here all day to meet and greet customers and fans, hopefully we can get him to sell a car or two as well,” he said with a laugh.
With Mustang coming in to replace Ford Falcons in next year’s V8 Supercars series, Zurcas expects a spike in Mustang sales.
“I honestly think people will see them being raced and people will want the product,” he said.
“They [Mustangs] have received some negative press over the last six months but there is so much more to what meets the eye,” he said.
The two door Mustang will be modified for the series but also must abide to the Supercars’ rule book to be available for public purchase off the race track.
“Certainly I am excited, it is going to be awesome to drive the first two door coupe in a long long time in Australia in the Supercars – it’s going to be sick,” McLaughlin said.
When asked what he loved most about the Mustang, McLaughlin replied “the history”.
“The history is really cool, obviously bringing the Mustang back in Australia because it hasn’t been around for a few years and now it has come back with a bang.”
When Mustangs first hit the Australian market, Zurcas said 700 were being sold per day nation wide.
“We are very proud to be the biggest rural Mustang seller in Australia, we have customers that come from all over to buy cars from us.
“The whole idea is bringing people to Eden,” he said.
McLaughlin said he is enjoying his time in Eden and Merimbula, making the most of his break in between race dates.
During his visit to the dealership he was stoked to have test driven a manual Mustang for the very first time.
After showing off a 5L GT Mustang in the showroom, McLaughlin was not shy in accepting the keys for a test drive of Zurcas’ very own upgraded Mustang.
“Surprisingly this my first drive of a Mustang stick shift, mine is an auto which kinda sucks but it’s good for the city,” he said.
After doing a short leg of the Princes Highway towards Quarantine Bay, McLaughlin complimented the road and gave plenty of positive feedback on the car.
“It feels good doesn’t it?…It is good fun,” McLaughlin said
“Gee it handles so well around these bends, the roads in Eden are awesome as well.”
