The game didn’t start well for the Heelers with Merimbula/Pambula scoring three tries and taking an early lead of 16-0.
However before half time after applying a lot of pressure on the home side, the Bombala boys were able to score their first points of the game through Sam Sten and with the conversion waved away the boys were trailing 16-4.
The second half started similarly to the first, with Merimbula/Pambula getting on the board first and extending their lead to 20-4.
However Bombala would hit back with a great try to winger Logan Brownlie, the scoreline now reading 20-8. From here, the Bombala boys were on a roll with great individual tries to captain-coach Murray Jackson and Luke Mould who both showed great strength and speed to get over the line and bring the game to within 2 points, 20-18.
The boys had to work hard now to get some more points and take the lead, however unfortunately this was not to be and Merimbula/Pambula secured the win, scoring one last try before full time, the score reading 26-18. It was an impressive performance by the Bombala boys who continue to work together and display some classy football.
Points this week were awarded to; player’s player Luke Mould, who impressed in both attack and defence working hard all game. 3 points went to Dylan Elton, who was strong in the middle taking big hit ups and working tirelessly in defence, 2 points went to winger Blake Stevenson who ran the ball back with purpose and 1 point went to Brett Hodak for his dominant running game and solid defence.
The Bombala Blue Heelers will travel to Cooma next weekend to take on the Cooma Stallions in all three grades. This sees First Grade’s last round game of the season as they look to cement a top 3 finish heading into finals.
The club invites all spectators to make the trip to Cooma and support our sides in one of the last round games of the season. The BDRLFC would like to thank their major sponsor, Club Bombala for their ongoing support.
