The High Heelers were first to take to the field and were keen to get back in the winners circle ahead of the start of the finals.
The game started well for the Heelers when in the second minute Heidi Kimber (sponsored by Brownlie Border Leicester Stud) was able to find the line out wide and open the scoring for the day, 4-0 in Bombala’s favour.
Just minutes later, a well placed kick from Kayley Keavey (sponsored by D&L High Country Earthworks) saw Abbey Kimber (sponsored by Monique Perkins Accredited Practicing Dietician) chase through and score extending the girls lead to 10-0 with a successful conversion to Kayley (sponsored by D&L High Country Earthworks).
Not long after, it was Heidi Kimber (sponsored by Brownlie Border Leicester Stud) who was in again taking the score to 14-0 and minutes later Keiryn Mizon (sponsored by Delegate Hotel) followed suit scoring a try on the left wing, the score now reading 18-0.
Next to score was Lucy Sellers (sponsored by Bendoc Park Poll Herefords) who steamed onto a ball to score under the posts and with Kayley Keavey’s (sponsored by D&L High Country Earthworks) successful conversion, the score was now 24-0 with minutes remaining in the first half. The girls were able to score one more try before half time to Sam Stewart and with this the half time score read 28-0.
The second half started the same as the first for the Bombala girls when Heidi Kimber (sponsored by Brownlie Border Leicester Stud) was in for her third try of the day extending the lead to 32-0.
Next to score was Monique Perkins (sponsored by Fortitude Physiotherapy) who showed some fancy footwork to beat defenders and score under the posts and with Kayley Keavey’s (sponsored by D&L High Country Earthworks) successful conversion the score now read 38-0.
Sam Stewart (sponsored by Clear Cut Electrical) scored her second try of the day shortly after and with another successful conversion to Kayley Keavey (sponsored by D&L High Country Earthworks) the girls were now leading 44-0. Just minutes later, Brooke Morey (sponsored by Steve’s Backyard Blitz) was in to score for the Bombala girls and another successful conversion saw the scoreline now reading 50-0 with 10 minutes left to play. Two more tries to Amy Stone (sponsored by Bibbenluke Stockhorse Stud) and Sam Stewart (sponsored by Clear Cut Electrical) before full time saw the final score reading 58-0.
It was an impressive display by the Bombala girls who finished minor premiers for the regular season and will now look to ramp things up coming into the finals.
Points this week went to; Heidi Kimber (sponsored by Brownlie Border Leicester Stud), player’s player for her support plays and impressive tries, 3 points went to Abbey Kimber (sponsored by Monique Perkins Accredited Practicing Dietitian) who led the girls around the park all day, 2 points went to Monique Perkins (sponsored by Fortitude Physiotherapy) for her impressive ball work and 1 point was shared between Georgia Jones (sponsored by Garden Jewels) for her support play and dominant running game and Kayley Keavey (sponsored by D&L High Country Earthworks) for her safety at the back and great kicking and running game.
Reserves
The Reserve Grade boys were next to take to the field looking for a win for their last game of 2018.
The game didn’t start well for the Bombala boys when Tathra were able to score four unanswered tries in the first half to take a lead of 22-0 into the half time break.
The second half started and the Bombala boys worked hard in defence, unfortunately Tathra were able to score four more tries and extend their lead to 42-0. The Bombala boys didn’t give up though and in the 29th minute were able to get across the line through front rower Paul Gimbert and get their first points on the board.
With the conversion waved away, the boys were now trailing 42-4.
The Bombala boys kept throwing things at Tathra and unluckily captain-coach Murray Jackson was held up over the line just on the stroke of full time. It wasn’t the way the Bombala boys wanted to end their season, but they can hold their heads high on a great season. The boys will now look to support the girls and first grade sides as they continue their run into the finals.
Points this week went to; player’s player and 3 points was Thomas Eccles who ran the ball up with intent all game and defended well on the edge, 2 points went to Paul Gimbert who ran the ball well all game and provided some strong defence in the middle and 1 point went to hooker Charlie Piesley who directed the boys around all game and was solid in defence.
Turning to the finals, the girls will have a week off after finishing on top of the ladder and the first grade boys will have a home semi-final this weekend against Moruya after finishing second.
We encourage all supporters to get down to the Bombala show ground this Sunday to support the boys in their finals campaign. The BDRLFC would like to thank their major sponsor Club Bombala for their ongoing support.
