The Heelers will now play the Bega Roosters in the 2018 grand final at Bega on Sunday, while the Bombala League Tag High Heelers will play the Eden Tigerettes in a bid to also win the league tag grand final.
Sunday’s game was a tough battle through the middle and it wasn’t until the 24th minute that Tyler Jones intercepted the ball and ran the length to score under the posts and open the Heelers scoring for the day.
With Andrew Guthrie’s successful conversion, the boys took a lead of 6-0 and this is how the first half would end.
The second half started and this time in only the 4th minute Tyler Jones (sponsored by Raw Strength Bombala) again showed some class to score under the posts, bagging his second try of the day.
Andrew Guthrie (sponsored by H&D Jones) successfully converted and took the boys lead to 12-0.
Next to score for the Heelers was captain-coach Paul Perkins (sponsored by Cottrell Motors Toyota) and with another successful Andrew Guthrie (sponsored by H&D Jones) conversion, the boys now had a comfortable 18-0 lead with still 20 minutes to play.
Bateman’s Bay were able to hit back with a try of their own, taking the score now to 18-6 in Bombala’s favour.
Just minutes later, the boys kept the ball alive getting it to Tyler Jones (sponsored by Raw Strength Bombala) for him to score his third try of the day and with another successful conversion the boys extended their lead to 24-6.
With 3 minutes left to play, the Bombala boys received a penalty in front of the posts, and electing to take the 2 points, Andrew Guthrie (sponsored by H&D Jones) kicked the goal, the final score reading 26-6 and securing Bombala a grand final spot.
It was a great display by the Bombala boys who will look to take that form into the grand final next weekend against the Bega Roosters.
The Heelers first grade side will join the Bombala ladies side in the grand final next weekend on Sunday and the club invites all supporters to make the trip to Bega to support the sides in the hopes of grand final wins.
The BDRLFC would like to thank their major sponsor Club Bombala for their ongoing support.
