Alex formerly a student St Joseph’s Primary School won the Snowy Monaro Regional Council’s Resource and Waste team’s artwork competition winning a buddy bench for the school and now her artwork is featured on the council collection truck.
“Council is thrilled to present St Joseph’s Primary School with a buddy bench and to congratulate Alex on her wonderful artwork,” Mayor Rooney said.
“Alex is very engaged with her community and her artwork promotes an important recycling message. It looks great on the side of the kerbside collection vehicle.
“Buddy benches are a permanent place in the school with a special purpose. Children are encouraged to sit on the bench when they’re feeling left out, and when other students see this, they’re encouraged to go talk with them.”
Primary school students in Bombala and Delegate were asked to produce an artwork encouraging the community to reduce waste and increase theirrecycling. The students’ artworks focussed on the Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle initiative.
Alex, who now attends Bombala High School, produced a drawing in last year’s artwork competition featuring a platypus, recycling logo, and the words ‘Keep our community clean’.
The artwork is proudly displayed on the side of the waste and recycling kerbside collection vehicle that services Bibbenluke, Bombala, Cathcart and Delegate.
Council would like to thank all the Bombala and Delegate students who participated in Council’s Resource and Waste team’s artwork competition.
