The CUC Snowy Monaro is based in Cooma, and on Friday, the Deputy Premier John Barilaro joined NRL General Manager Officiating Tony Archer to launch an initiative that will improve the facilities and resources for rugby league match officials in regional areas.
The new partnership between the CUC and NRL, means referees and game-day officials will be able to increase their skills, and obtain the necessary qualifications without having to travel to a city.
Representatives from the Canberra Region Joint Organisation were in attendance, and it was a great opportunity to showcase the fantastic set-up that is the CUC Snowy Monaro. This campus has paved the way for tertiary education in regional areas, and is a real asset to our region.
On Monday, I met Bombala student Alex Reed who won Council’s Resource and Waste artwork competition while at St Joseph’s Primary School.
For winning the competition, Alex’s school received a buddy bench and her artwork is now featured on the side of the kerbside collection vehicle that services Bibbenluke, Bombala, Cathcart and Delegate.
Our region is fortunate to have many young people who are active participants in their community and our 2018 Youth Council has led the way in advocating the needs and issues of young people in the Snowy Monaro. Nominations are being called for next year’s Youth Council.
