About 11.58am on Sunday, October 28, a white Mitsubishi Lancer displaying red P plates was seen travelling south on the Princes Hwy at Yellow Pinch, north of Merimbula.
Its speed was checked at 158kmh in the signposted 100kmh area. The vehicle was stopped by Bega Highway Patrol and the 17-year-old driver produced a provisional P1 drivers licence.
Police said that when spoken to “he stated he was unaware of his speed, but knew he was accelerating”.
The driver returned negative breath and drug tests. His licence suspended for six months and an infringement issued for P1 over 45kmh, amounting to a $2435 fine and six demerit points.
