Speaking on Tuesday, Snowy Monaro Regional Council’s group manager facilities Glen Hines said it had been a good season for the park.
“Over the Christmas period, and still now, there have been a number of nights where there are no vacancies,” he said.
“All cabins, powered and unpowered sites have been occupied.”
He said the visitor numbers at the park were up from last year.
“We were busy last year, but we didn’t have as many nights where the park was at full capacity,” he said.
When asked when the busiest time of the year for the park was, Mr Hines said there were a number of times when the park had peak occupancy.
As it was still the Christmas period he said there were a lot of people travelling through wanting to check out the local area.
“Usually around the Easter break there is an increase in patronage,” he said.
“There are some events during the year such as the Bombala Show (March), Bombala Bike Show (November), The Engine Rally (held bi-annually in November) where patronage is high for the park.”
Mr Hines said a lot of tourists come to town to view platypus, fish and enjoy the river, parks and reserves.
“Visitors also use Bombala as a base to visit attractions in the surrounding areas,” he said.
“Some of the coastal areas have outpriced a lot of tourists and with crowding in peak season many visitors prefer somewhere quieter where they can really relax, unwind and check out some of the fantastic tourist attractions of our area.”
