Plans are well under way for Australia Day celebrations in Bombala run in conjunction with the NSW Strongwool Shearing Championships on Saturday, January 26 at the Bombala Showground.

There are enormous amount of activities planned for the day with the official presentation of Australia Day Awards and an address by Bombala’s assigned Australia Day ambassador Peter Herbert.
Peter Herbert is a writer and executive producer of many national and international companies.
He began his career writing and producing for Crawford Productions with television classics such as Cop Shop, The Sullivans, The Flying Doctors and Acropolis Now.
He wrote Con the Fruiterer for the Comedy Company and produced the inaugural Comedy Festival Charity Gala.
He is currently Head of Screen Business and Producing at the Australian Film Television and Radio School.
A huge day of celebrations including wood chopping, chainsaw events and demonstrations by the Historical Engine Society.
Entries are open for the annual photographic and art exhibition. The theme for photos is the “Essence of Rural Australia” and for art works it is “Landscape”.
Entries can be dropped in at the showground before 9am on Australia Day or you can drop them into Sally-Ann Thompson at the library.
There is an Eel Fishing competition with prizes for the longest and heaviest. Entries are being taken at the Bombala Newsagency from Monday, January 21 until Friday and entries are only $2 per entry.
For the youngsters there will be a variety of amusements including a jumping castle with water and other activities that are yet to be confirmed.
Raffle tickets will be available for purchase on the day with first prize a fire-pit, second prize $150 Bombala Garden Jewels voucher and third prize is $100 Bombala Shoe Shed voucher. Tickets are $2 each or three for $5.
There will also be lavender displays including distilling and information sessions.
All in all it will be a fantastic fun filled family day out.
