There are now 22 fires burning across the Monaro and another four fires in Victoria burning close the border.
Three new fires in NSW were ignited by lightning overnight and RFS or NPWS crews are working on or patrolling all fires now.
Another four fires were caused by lightening across the border in Victoria with two of those fires now contained the two are small and in remote country.
The lightning has been wide spread with fires near the Victorian border at Bonang, Delegate River and Tubbut and in NSW from Delegate through Ando, Nimmitabel, Numeralla, Peakview, Jerangle, Anembo, Michelago and up to the ACT.
There have also been fires started by lightening on the Far South Coast of NSW.
A spokesperson for the NSW Rural Fire Service said that fire fighters were working to get things under control, but they expected conditions to worsen around 2pm this afternoon.
“It’s a watch, wait and act situation at the moment.”
The RFS continues to ask property owners to be proactive and inspect their property for any signs of fire.
Lightning strikes may take a while to start burning, usually happening as the day heats up.
A total Fire Ban remains in place for the rest of the day.
