Emergency services are working with community to prepare for hot weather and increased fire danger over the next 4 days.
“The major fires at Timbarra near Buchan and the Thomson fire continue to burn within control lines,” regional controller Tony O’Day said.
“The Walhalla Stony Creek road fire is quite active and is close to the communities of Rawson and Erica.
“Fire agencies are undertaking community protection works along the edge and within these communities in preparation for the increased bushfire risk. A community meeting was held in Rawson last night and the community are working well together to be prepared for the increase fire risk.
“As we expected the lightning has resulted is a significant amount of new fire across the region," he said.
"New fires near Licola and Dargo are a priority for fire-fighters with those fires rapidly building. Other fires are in remote areas and do not currently pose a risk to communities however the situation can change rapidly so people need to remain informed.
“Firefighters are directly and aggressively attacking the priority fires. Aircraft, including the very large air tanker are working on these fires and where we can, remote area fire fighters that rappel from aircraft, are undertaking direct attack on the ground,” Mr O’Day said.
The community are reminded to stay informed and seek information from a range of trusted sources including the Vic Emergency App and emergency broadcasters.
