The Aussie team took on Bombala at Rotary Park on Saturday and after winning the toss they decided to bat. The Bombala bowlers were bowling tight and were backed up in the field. Runs were hard to come by and Bombala struck through Power (1/16) trapping J Asanovski in front in the fifth over.
Brad Tonks had the new ball from the other end and had early impact removing D Asanovski LBW. With The Aussie 2/9 it was up to Sidhu and Watson to rebuild the innings.
Sidhu was busy at the crease looking to rotate the strike, taking quick singles which led to his down fall. After taking off for a sharp single Chadderton pounced on the ball and fired back to keeper, Pratt removing the bails leaving Sidhu short of his ground ran out for 13. Umback and Watson took The Aussie to drinks at 3/39.
Straight after drinks Sullivan (2/21) removed Watson caught behind for 20, and shortly after removed Khoury in the same fashion. Thornton was proving difficult to play and this resulted in a well executed plan to remove Porter caught at third man The Aussie 6/50. Thornton (3/12) then ripped the game wide open removing Smith and Haylock in consecutive deliveries. Stephenson(1/14) chimed in removing Umback for a patient 10, Adams(1/0) taking the final wicket The Aussie all out 70.
Bombala’s chase got off to a shaky start losing M Tonks in the first over to Haylock (1/21). Brooks and B Tonks went about chasing the target. The Aussie bowlers were making it tough going for the batsmen. Sidhu once again was difficult to play. Tonks regularly found the middle of the bat. Brooks growing in confidence compiled a fine innings which saw him carry his bat making a well deserved 28 not out. With the finish line in sight Tonks went about aiming to finish the game in a hurry. This approach led to his down fall and he was bowled for 36. Thornton went to crease with 9 runs required for victory, Brooks hit the winning runs in the 19th over. Bombala getting home by 8 wickets.
