Last week's Golden Oldie had several readers digging up memories of marching bands.
While we featured a photo courtesy of Val Perkins that was taken at Cooma Showgrounds, it seems our information that it was of the Bombala Magpies was incorrect.
Readers including Shirley Steed and Chris Brand pointed out they were in fact known as the Bombala Commodores.
"The Bombala Marching Girls were formed around the mid-1950s and disbanded around the late 1960s," Shirley said.
"Locals Nancy Culshaw and Jessie Douglas formed the marching girls and Andy Brand joined soon after.
Teams were Bombala Highlanders, Emeralds and Marshalettes, then Commodores and Marines.
"From starting off as real novices, they soon improved their knowledge of marching with the help of teams like Parramatta.
"It was a very popular sport and Bombala was very proud of their marching girls who won many medals for their efforts.
"There were up to 50 girls marching at one stage. It took a lot of effort from a lot of dedicated people to make all this work, and it was a wonderful era in Bombala's history."
Chris Brand and Leslie Reibel were also helpful in identifying all the girls in the photo.
In the back (from left) were Maree Robbie, Kay Brand, team coach Andy Brand, Denise Murphy, Sally Richmond and Lynne White.
And in front were Marie Brownlie, Diane Perkins, Carol Wright, Helen Parks, Jodie Vejvoda and band leader Trish Sindel (kneeling).
Leslie tells us the occasion was a marching band competition at Cooma Showground some time in the 1960s.
