Member for Monaro John Barilaro said one of the most popular programs for kids and parents has just been doubled to help kids stay active all year long.
"We all know kids want to play sport and keep active with their friends and now parents can encourage them even more with another voucher to help reduce the costs associated with participation," Mr Barilaro said.
"Since the Active Kids program was launched in 2018, families across NSW have saved over $100 million. That's $100 million back in the pockets of mums and dads, to benefit young families and young sports stars.
"I can see in our region just how much the Active Kids Vouchers assist families to manage the cost of living. Parents are now able to save more with two vouchers available per school enrolled child.
"I consider that to be a big win for Monaro, which is famous for its active lifestyle. I am encouraging families to take advantage of the offer and join organisations such as Cooma Athletics, Braidwood Redbacks, Bungendore Pony Club, Queanbeyan Tigers, 1st Kosciuszko Scout Group, Bombala Netball Club, Delegate Tennis Club and Berridale Gymnastics.
"These clubs and organisations are just some of the many groups involved with Active Kids around our region and with so many options available children in Monaro are bound to find an activity that suits them."
From January - June there was an overall increase of 13 per cent in the number of Active Kids' vouchers created, including a 17 per cent rise in vouchers created for girls following an influx of registrations for dance, gymnastics, tennis and swimming Active Kids providers.
The NSW Government is investing an additional $40 million this year to expand the Active Kids program because the results have demonstrated the need to support kids and families.
Parents of school-enrolled children can access a second $100 Active Kids voucher to use towards registration and membership fees for sport and active recreation each year. For further information visit sport.nsw.gov.au/activekids or call 13 13 02.
