His case was mentioned in Sydney's Supreme Court on Friday, August 1, where he pleaded not guilty to two charges of murder due to mental illness.
In June last year, the then-20-year-old allegedly murdered both his grandmother Gail Winner at her Bega home by stabbing and retired Merimbula police officer Mick Horne during an alleged carjacking with a hammer while allegedly attempting to evade capture by police.
Deakin also pleaded not guilty due to mental illness to one count of grievous bodily harm with intent to murder, as he allegedly attacked his grandfather Thomas Winner with a knife last year.
He will face a trial in the Supreme Court on April 27, 2020.
