Motorists are advised a reduced speed limit will be in place from Thursday, November 28 on the Snowy Mountains Highway between Adaminaby and Yarrangobilly.
The speed limit will be reduced from 100 km/h to 80 km/h for 22.3 kilometres between Providence Road at Adaminaby and the Link Road at Yarrangobilly.
Transport for NSW Regional Director Southern, Sam Knight, said a review of the speed limit on the section of the Snowy Mountains Highway was carried out in response to community feedback.
"The review assessed a number of factors including crash history and road alignment and concluded the 100 km/h zone is no longer considered appropriate," Ms Knight said.
"In the last five years, 30 crashes were recorded along this 20 kilometre length of highway, one of which was fatal.
"The reduced 80 km/h speed zone extension will create a safer road environment for all road users.
"Motorists are reminded the new speed limits are legally enforceable and are reminded to drive to speed limits at all times for the safety of all road users."
Electronic message signs will be in place on the Snowy Mountains Highway to advise motorists of the new reduced speed limit.
Work to install new speed limit signs will be carried out until Thursday, November 28, weather permitting.
