Gary unfortunately passed away last Thursday after a tragic accident.
Our thoughts and condolences are sent to the Thompson family, his friends and the Bombala Cricket team.
As a mark of respect and admiration for Gary we would ask captains to organise black armbands and hold a minutes silence prior to the start of play this weekend.
Gary is going to be greatly missed by the cricket fraternity on the Monaro.
Golf
What a sad and frightening time it has been since Christmas. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those that have suffered losses in the fires.
Our deepest sympathy to Pepper and Pam Thompson in the sad death of their son Gary. We have you in our thoughts and prayers in your sudden and tragic loss.
Our thoughts and prayers are also with the Hillyer family as they continue their search for Jarreth and his friend who went missing on a fishing trip.
With all the sadness in our small community players took relief in a game of golf even with all the smoke.

Junior Rugby League
On Saturday the South Sydney Rabbitohs are coming to Bombala to help entertain the kids. A club representative said they were thinking maybe a touch footy/league tag mini comp. The day is open to all in the community and will kick off about 1pm at the touch footy field at Apex Park.
Rodeos cancelled
The Nowra and Moruya rodeos are casualties of the ongoing bushfire crisis and highway closures.
The Nowra event was due to begin on Sunday, December 29, but organisers said fires in the Shoalhaven forced its cancellation for the safety of "livestock, competitors and spectators".
The Moruya committee announced the cancellation of the annual New Year's Day event on its website "in respect for competitors and spectators who travel to this event".
"A recent outbreak of fire threatens the Moruya area and the committee hopes that there will be no losses to the community," the statement said, referring to a bushfire in Deua River Valley, north-west of Moruya, which began on Boxing Day.
The rodeos draw competitors and spectators from around NSW and all along the coast.
The cancellations are another blow to retailers and tourism operators doing it tough since November 26, when the Currowan fire broke out.
That blaze now stretches from Batemans Bay to Nowra and west towards Braidwood. The Princes Highway has been repeatedly closed and the Kings Highway remains closed until the end of January.
"Due to the ongoing fire danger in the Shoalhaven and following advice from the RFS, we have made the decision to cancel the 2019 Nowra Rodeo," organisers said.
"This was not an easy decision to make, but the safety of livestock, competitors and spectators is paramount."
