Luke from Leisure Coast Tackle at Corrimal happily reports the bluefin tuna season has finally arrived. These excellent fighting and even better table tuna are here now and in good numbers and size.

Thus far the best bite has been between Ulladulla and Tuross with some big fish being landed.

Biggest so far was by customers on Narooma Charters with their fish pulling the scales down to a very impressive 148 kilos.

There were even a few bites from yellowfin mixed in with their blue cousins and joined the melee on a couple of five-way hook-ups.

There have been plenty of both species taken on top water lures and stick baits.

This is fast becoming the favourite way to target these fish when they are busting up and there have been yellows caught just under the 100 kilo using this method.

Fingers crossed the water keeps pushing up and in and we can see a run of these great sports fish closer to home.

The reds are still about in good size and numbers but getting them to bite has been the tricky thing of late.

There have been only a few fish caught but out of those fish their size is making up for lack of numbers with fish in the 3 to 4 kilo range.

The weather isn't looking the best for the weekend at this stage with another low coming across but another stir-up could be just what's needed to get the fish firing again.

Amongst the reds there were still plenty of good by-catch with numbers of big blue mowies, trevally and some rather large pigfish caught while chasing the reds.

There have been reports of the odd cuttlie seen floating so hopefully in the next couple of weeks we should see more of them.

Again this should see some big reds in the shallower reefs picking up an easy feed off the floating cuttlie carcasses.

Rocks and beaches again continue to fire with plenty of great bread and butter fishing to be had.

Beaches have been a quiet affair.
