Member for Monaro John Barilaro said it was a significant announcement for grassroots sport in Cooma, with the new shed set to be a game changer for the two clubs.

"The Cooma Rugby Union Football Club and the Monaro District Cricket Association are both an important part of our local community," Mr Barilaro said.

"This $85,000 grant is fantastic news for the region, with the new shed at Rotary Oval fulfilling the needs of both sporting clubs.

"This joint project will ensure the clubs can more easily and safely store equipment including the cricket pitch roller, reducing the risk of vandalism and putting the clubs' members' minds at ease.

"I congratulate both the CRUFC and MDCA on their successful application and I look forward to seeing how this project makes a difference in the community."

Cooma Rugby Union Football Club life member Brian Coyte said the funding was very welcome news.

"This new shed will be replacing some very unsightly storage facilities with a functional building, which can be used in both winter and summer.

Monaro District Cricket Association President Mark Williams added that the new facilities will improve participation for both sporting clubs.

"This is a huge boost to both cricket and rugby, and will also make it much more appealing for visiting teams and easier to store equipment," Mr Williams said.

"A huge thank you to the government for the support, as this upgrade will enable us to attract more players and more representative games to Cooma."

Now a decade old, the Community Building Partnership program has funded more than 13,800 community projects since it started in 2009.
