Weekends once might have meant junior sport, maybe a brunch and even get-together with family and friends. These days?

COVIDidiots are pretty much the constant. As was the case again today. But unlike last weekend, the protest was pretty much over before it began.

About 700 signed up online to the suburban Coles protest but numbers barely hit 100 witnesses said.

The crowd "sang"John Farnham's anthem You're the Voice and then scarpered before police arrived at the scene.

And what's a weekend without a "bubble breach" by a footballer? This time it's Melbourne's Harley Bennell, not exactly a stranger to controversy.

He reportedly enjoyed a Saturday drinking session away from the team's Sunshine Coast hub. Now he'll face an AFL investigation.

On the virus front, Australia reported six new deaths including five in Victoria. The state also reported 14 new cases, far below the 700+ cases months ago.

NSW recorded two new cases and one death, also contact tracers are working hard to touch base with people who dealt with a taxi driver who worked while infectious over a number of days.

New South Wales will join the federal pandemic leave disaster payment scheme, and Victoria announced $13m to rescue Melbourne's live music scene.

A 13-year-old boy has tested positive for COVID-19 while in quarantine in Perth after recently returning from overseas while Queensland racked up two more cases amid reports US actor Tom Hanks is staying at a luxury Gold Coast mansion rather than in a government-mandated hotel.

Wrong, said Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk.

Let's zap to WA for the feelgood story of the weekend. And hopefully none of us will have to go through the same tormet to understand.

But Chris O'Reilly reckons he could have "ran on water" when news came through that his three-year-old son had been found safe after going missing in dense bushland south of Perth.

"It was the highlight of the worst day of my life."
