At last week's Ordinary Council Meeting Councillors resolved to adopt in principle the Monaro Rail Trail Draft Feasibility Report, investigate transition of Council's light vehicles to an electric/low greenhouse gas emissions fleet, and hold further discussion on the strategic review of future use of Vale Street land in Cooma. Councillors also approved the establishment of a business and recovery hub to be set up for 12 months at 57 Vale Street, Cooma. This is a great outcome for the region, greatly increasing convenience for those seeking assistance following the bushfires.
Following approval to proceed with the upgrade of the Adaminaby Sewerage Treatment Plant a community meeting is at 5.30pm on Tuesday, December 1 at the Adaminaby School of Arts. This is to discuss the design and construction plans, and I invite all interested parties to attend.
In the community
I recently attended the Country Universities Centre AGM. The centre has grown far beyond original expectations with more than 150 students studying numerous subjects, and proving the need for higher education in our region. Anyone interested in finding out more should contact Nadine Holland - Centre Manager (Bombala Street, Cooma).
The Michelago Community Hall s355 Management Committee is looking for four members of the community to join their team. Local committees are vital for the continued operation of these multi-use community facilities so please put your hand up if you are part of the local Michelago community and would like to be involved.

Feedback closes this week for the Crown Land Reserves - Plans of Management (closed November 24 at 4.30pm) and the Cow Bed Bridge Replacement Project (closes November 30 at 4.30pm). Following requests for an extension for feedback on the Draft Settlements and Rural Land Use Strategies, we have amended the close date to February 1, 2021.
Council's Development Application (DA) tracker is now back online and available to review the status of any applications under assessment in the region. This is the first of a raft of e-services planned to be rolled out over the next six months to provide more transparency and avenues for community engagement on development.
National Asbestos Awareness Week
Activities this week aim to remind Australians to be asbestos aware before they start any work around the home. Asbestos lurks in more places than you may think. Find out about disposal of asbestos in our region on council's website.
