Months of rehearsal will result in the production of the smash hit musical Mamma Mia! to be performed in the Bega Valley this January.

In the show, performed by local amateur community theatre group Dreamcoat Theatre Productions, ABBA's hit songs will help tell the hilarious story of a young woman's search for her birth father.

The sunny and funny tale unfolds on a Greek island paradise. On the eve of her wedding, a daughter's quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her mother's past back to the island they last visited 20 years ago.

A mother. A daughter. Three possible dads. It is a trip down the aisle you'll never forget!

The story-telling magic of ABBA's timeless songs propels this enchanting tale of love, laughter and friendship creating an unforgettable show.

A large cast, non-stop laughs and explosive dance numbers combine to make Mamma Mia!

"It's ABBA! It's lots of fun, with big dancing, big singing; it's a very entertaining show," Dreamcoat Theatre Productions' producer as well as choreographer and actor in the show Hayley Fragnito said.

She said the 50 performers, including actors and orchestra, ranged in age from 16 to 78.

"It's amazing how much talent is in our area, we're very lucky we have so many talented people willing to donate their time and skills," she said.

Fragnito said the rehearsals had been going extremely well "despite all the obstacles of the year" - for instance auditions for the rolls in the production had to be held online.

"I'm very proud of the team for staying committed," she said.

Dreamcoat Theatre Productions will be donating its excess profits from its Mamma Mia! production to the Sapphire Coast Advocates For Social Justice to aid their work in supporting bushfire-affected families in the local area.

Over the previous four years Dreamcoat Theatre Productions has staged two highly-successful musical productions and donated over $22,000 in profits back into the community through the Sapphire Coast Advocates For Social Justice.

Mamma Mia! will be performed at the Bega Valley Commemorative Civic Centre, Bega from 7pm on January 15, 16, 17, 20, 22 and 23.

There will also be 2pm matinee shows at the same venue on January 16, 17, 19, 21 and 23.

Tickets are $40. To book, click here.

If the severity of COVID-19 restrictions increase in the region the show may be postponed.

Mamma Mia! features music and lyrics by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus with some songs with Stig Anderson, the book is by Catherine Johnson and it is originally conceived by Judy Craymer.
