The Merimbula local brought his 10-years of racing experience to Narooma, helping all levels of riders reach new goals in a series of weekend clinics.
"It feels good to give back to the community," he said.
Smith taught himself how to ride at a young age. He felt coaching was his new passion as he enjoys passing on his knowledge to help others ride safely.
"I like to make it safe for everyone, help them with the right techniques so they can have fun," he said.
Smith coaches all levels, from toddlers and families to the more experienced.
"I can help kids wanting to learn how to jump, to people wanting to achieve overseas racing," he said.
Smith hoped to host more clinics at Narooma soon.
"If the demand is there, I hope to set up here again twice a month," Smith said.
Rosie Hurt of Batemans Bay attended one of Smith's sessions at the weekend.
"It was great to learn the basics like turning, braking and body positioning," she said.
"Brent was friendly, approachable and encouraging. He made us feel at ease.
In small groups, riders can participate in the two-hour clinics at a cost of $45.
Hurt said she will be back to explore more trails and practise her new skills.
"I absolutely love the trails at Narooma, they're so beautiful," she said.
To join Smith's final weekend of coaching sessions (January 30-31), email info@mountainbikenarooma.com.au or visit the Mountain Bike Narooma Facebook Page.
"There will be juniors classes, advanced classes, beginners and the most popular ladies only," a Narooma Mountain Bike Club spokesperson said.
