TEN young women and men brought Bombala to a standstill on Saturday night, and all for the right reasons. The only protests to be heard about this gathering of young adults were ones calling for the music and the festivities not to stop.

The silver jubilee Catholic Debutant Ball held at the Bombala Exhibition Hall, as have all previous 24 balls, once again was an occasion for family, friends, teachers and members of the community to acknowledge the young adults who were able to take the opportunity and present themselves as ready to take their place and make a contribution to their world.
This year’s group of participating young adults featured students from Bombala High School and Lumen Christi Catholic College, Pambula.
Master of Ceremonies, Mr Bob Letts and Parish Priest, Fr Mick Mac Andrew led the formalities of the night.
Janet Lomas, Sharon Platts and Nadean White had spent months planning and six weeks training the young adults for the night. A special guest on the night was Mrs Sheryle Toms who had, for many years, trained many debs and partners.
The hall was, as is to be expected now as a feature of the Ball, beautifully decorated, the theme this year being one of an enchanted garden.
Mrs Carol Badewitz, assisted by members of the Catholic Ladies and St Jospeph’s Schools, along with willing husbands, transformed the hall with murals and other embellishments.
Parents and families of the young adults, who came from all over the district, from Bonang, Delegate, Bombala, Rockton and Mt Darragh, were thanked for their support and assistance for the young people.
Theme children and a page boy and flower girl from St Joseph’s School accompanied the young adults in the formal proceedings.
Brittanee Neven and Mary Marapodi cut the cake, decorated to match the theme by Sheryle Toms, and Bridget Peters spoke on behalf of the young adults.
Bombala Catholic Ladies Organisation President, Mrs Jan Farrell and St Joseph’s School Council President, Mrs Kath Farrell wish to thank everyone who made the Ball the success it was, both for the young adults and also as a much needed fundraiser for the parish and the school.
