IT has been a great season of junior rugby league for the Blue Heelers, with plenty to do.
We started with our registration day which went better than expected, which resulted in fielding sides of 7s, 9s, 11s and Under 13s.
The big ticket items of the year were the very successful Pre Season Competition held on the Monaro between Bombala, Cooma and Jindabyne run in conjunction with the Country Rugby League.
Next we hosted the Bibbenluke Carnival with over 40 participating teams from the Monaro, ACT, Moruya down to Eden, again a very successful day for Junior Rugby League.
Then of course the very big one, the 50th anniversary trip to Fairy Meadow to compete for the St John Vianney’s trophy, which was enjoyed by all, bringing home the trophy.
A big thank you to all who assisted in the preparation of this historic event, especially the sponsors who came on board.
Our club hosted many home games and many friendships were made with the competing clubs parents and officials of the Group 16 JRL executive committee.
There were many trips away competing on the Monaro and South Coast which was very well supported by the players, and above all the parents and committee.
Our Under 13s were treated to a trip to Sydney to see the State of Origin.
The team was kindly donated 10 tonne of wood by Mark Rodwell, which the boys had to get in and split and load onto the tip truck for a raffle.
A very successful trip which our Secretary, Tracy put a lot of time and effort into. Many thanks Tracy.
To finish off the footy season we hosted the JRL Minor Semi Finals at Bombala.
Without a working committee we would not have been as successful as we were for the year, thank you very much too all Committee members.
I would also like to thank our major sponsors, the Bombala RSL, Tasco, Rodwell Logging, Globe Hotel, Bombala Butchery and our Jumper Sponsors for their generous donations.
All the referees and parents, without your support nothing goes ahead, and to me the most important part of the team is the Coaches and their young assistants (Jackson Standen, Josh Brownlie, Nickolas Rosten and Luke Platts) who dedicate their time to the players, teaching them what it’s all about, young players competing in a team sport.
