The local boys travelled to minor premiers Broulee for round one. With little known about the other teams in the competition, the Blue Tongues were prepared for a strong battle.
However the large Blue Tongues forward pack were too dominant for the smaller Broulee pack. In all a strong team performance and solid defence won the game for the Blues.
With tries to Vinnie Papalli, Will Jeffrys, Ben Hockey, two tries to Shaun Walcott, and five goals to Kory Elton, the Bluetongues ended up with a convincing 36-7 victory.
Players Player went to Shaun Walcott, three points to Ben Hockey, two points to Sio Papalli, and one point to Dane Cottrell.
Round two was played in Delegate on Saturday against Milton. With great weather conditions, a perfectly prepared field, and a good crowd looming, game day was shaping up nicely.
As per the standard, player numbers were definitely not an issue for our first home game of the year. The Milton side fielded a somewhat younger side, but again it was the sheer size of the Bluetongues which became a dominant factor in the game.
Hard running from forwards Raymond Kading and Sio Papalli set the structure for the backs to do their damage.
With six tries to Shaun Walcott, and one to Korie Elton, the Bluetongues turned it on for the Delegate crowd and were victorious 37-12.
Players player and three points went to the try scoring machine Shaun Walcott, two points went to Ben Hockey, and one point to Sio Papalli.
Special thanks to those involved with the ground preparation and the running of the day.
The Bluetongues would like to thank their sponsors the Globe Hotel, the Delegate Hotel, and Mike Walcott for making this team possible.
Our next match is against Narooma away, and our next home game is against Batemans Bay on June 20 at the Bombala Exhibition Ground, so let’s get up there and cheer the boys on!
