There has been up to 30 boats on schools of fish with absolute mayhem.
Fish have been busting the surface and taking poppers on spin outfits – hold on. With Bermagui and Ulladulla being the out spots some fish have still been caught wide off the Bay.
Look for water temperature breaks and 18 degrees plus water temperature.
I called into Ulladulla fisherman’s Co-Op on Wednesday and caught a glimpse of a long-liners catch of more than 50 bluefin, up to 80kg, being weighed, iced, boxed and tagged for export in the blink of an eye – talk about fresh.
I just hope these barrels of fish are in numbers for the future because as an angler I dream of catching a prize fish like these.
A few spear divers have been getting into the action as well with 40 and 80 kg models being speared and wrested 60 kilometres offshore in 1000 metres plus of water – you’ve got to be keen.
There are good reports of snapper up to 4kg caught off the rocks and in up to 40 metres of water from Bawley Point to the Tollgate Islands.
It seems to be producing the goods with the giant cuttlefish still around and they make great bait and berley.
Look for those carcass and fish around them with a similar bait or a white soft plastic.
Surf dwellers have slowed down with the strong westerly winds and gin-clear water making the fish shy.
Kingfish up to 80cm have been caught on the pinnacle reefs in 40 metres of water off Durras and Tuross.
Live slimy mackerel have been the best bait with the kingies hitting it hard and running straight back to the bottom.
Broulee seems to still have its supply of table-sized flathead in 30 to 50 metres of water out from the island.
Good luck to all anglers, be safe, and hope to see you on the water or at least at the ramp cleaning a feed.
