SES teams from Nimmitabel, Cooma and Jindabyne were deployed to the Hunter area last week, with the Bombala residents working as part of the Nimmitabel unit to assist with the storm damage.
Nimmitabel SES Coordinator, Chris McGregor explains that the team of four were sent to the Newcastle/Maitland area, with two working on administration within the headquarters, while the other two were part of a chainsaw team.
The team worked for four days in the region, returning home last Thursday, with Mrs McGregor commending them on a job well done.
“We are only a small unit, but a very well trained one,” she said. “It’s hard work up there at the moment, and they did a great job.”
And of course there’s still more work to be done, with damage still being cleared away and more rain received over the weekend, so the Nimmitabel unit headed back into the fray on Sunday.
This time a team of seven, including the original four from Bombala as well as Mrs McGregor herself, were unsure where they would be deployed at the time of our interview, but were destined for Lismore, Grafton or North Sydney areas to assist this week.
