On Saturday, May 16 the Heelers travelled down the hill to a sunny Pambula where the High Heeler ladies took out the double against Cobargo/Bemboka United (CBU) Pink Panthers and Merimbula/Pambula Hotdoggies. The Blue Heeler men, however came out second best against the Merimbula/Pambula Bulldogs.

The first game for the High Heelers against CBU began in style, with Maree Coates taking the ball from the kick off and running the back with sheer determination and pace; she broke straight through the line to eventually have the score 6-0 only a minute in.
Before half time Keiarna Rodwell, Sam Ingram and May Peck all also found the line, taking the score to 22-0 at the break.
In the second half Maree Coates ended up scoring another impressive three tries, and with Kaylee Keavey and Tash Stewart running great lines they also bagged a try each in the second half. Monique Ingram was unlucky not to score her own, making a break from halfway only to be tagged inches out from the line.
The defensive efforts of Lucy Sellers, Jane Peadon and Emma Sullivan helped to keep the CBU girls away from their line. Solid efforts out wide from new comer Amy Stone, as well as Janine Jamieson and Bec Richardson meant the CBU girls could not penetrate the Bombala defence, the final score ended as 42-0.
Three points awarded from the crowd went to Maree Coates, scoring an impressive four tries and leading as always, by example. Two points went to Kaylee Keavey whose line running was impressive, stretching defenders to the limits. One point went to Lucy Sellars with both evasive runs and solid defending efforts.
With a quick 20 minute break for the High Heelers it was back on the field to take on the Merimbula/Pambula Hotdoggies, the hotter weather certainly being noticed by the highland team, more familiar with training at temps closer to the minuses.
However with a fumble from the coastal team from the kick off, the ball was handed over close to the Heelers line and it was Chloe Hodak who hit a great hole to open up the scores, it was 6-0 only two minutes in.
It wasn't long before the ball came back to the left hand side of the field with Monique Ingram running a set play to put Lucy Sellars in for a try only two minutes later. The girls were on a roll.
However, the Hotdoggies weren't rolling over yet, with strong line running they broke the Heelers’ line on a number of occasions, but to the Heelers credit the girls scrambled in defence to keep them from scoring.
Keiarna Rodwell worked well out on the right hand side, often combining well with Jane Peadon and May Peck. In the 14th minute Keiarna sped down the sideline out wide to bag her second try for the day. Before half time Maree Coates was also in again to take the lead to 18-0.
Solid hit ups in the second half by Amy Stone, Katrina Brownlie, Sue Morgan and Sam Ingram helped to keep the momentum in the Heelers’ favour.
Lightening tags by Abbey Ingram, Tash Stewart and Emma Sullivan nullified any attempts by the Hotdoggies.
Jane Peadon pounced on a dropped ball from the Hotdoggies in 37th minute to dart and weave at pace through defenders to bag her own try. Again the combination of Monique Ingram and Lucy Sellars out on the left hand side saw more points for Lucy in the 40th minute taking the final score to 26-0.
Three points awarded from the crowd went to Monique Ingram, giving great direction across the park and having a solid defensive game; two points went to Keiarna Rodwell who played an all round solid game also demonstrating some damaging pace to put points on the board; and one point to Jane Peadon who proved she is just as lethal in defence as she is attack.
First Grade
The Blue Heelers had another tough task up against the in-form Bulldog outfit. It was another slow start from the Bombala lads, letting the coastal boys land 30 points before hitting back through a powerful Joe Bobbin just before half time.
The second half saw a more structured Bombala team, tackling with more intent, again with Daniel Douch often making the most crucial try saving tackles.
Joel Cherry and Malcolm Stone ran the ball with conviction making some much needed meters for the boys. In the 59th minute Brett Hodak muscled his way over the line followed by Malcolm Stone only 4 minutes later. The momentum seemed to be shifting and with the score at 36-14 in the 59th minute, 22 points did not seem so impossible.
Paul Perkins was instrumental in his efforts at hooker, rolling the boys forward, darting forward himself at times to gain good metres for his team.
Unfortunately the momentum wouldn't last for our Bombala boys and it was the Bulldogs who ran away with the game at an eventual score of 60-14.
Three points was awarded to Paul Perkins for his great leadership and motivational running; two points were shared between defensive king Daniel Douch and powerhouse Malcolm Stone; and one point to Joel Cherry for his solid tackling and hard line running.
