A series of meetings will be held in the shire’s towns to bring together women who are passionate about improving the council’s community engagement.
Batemans Bay’s Suzanne Dainer said an initial meeting was held in Narooma last month and meetings were planned for Moruya this Friday and Batemans Bay on Friday, August 14.
She said there was no formal group as yet, and meetings had no agenda, but the idea was to bring the spirit of ideas together.
“We’re calling the women of the Eurobodalla to see how we can interact with the council in a more positive way,” she said.
“We’re hoping, by women coming together we will be able to come up with some ideas.
“There is deep unhappiness with the council at the moment.
“We’re trying to say, ‘how can we do it better, how can get them to interact with us in a more positive way’, because women do things very differently.”
Ms Dainer did not rule out forming a group, or even participating in next year’s local government elections.
“We don’t know what will come out of it, we’re trying not have a pre-planned idea,” she said.
“We’re just trying to have meetings in each town, so people who want to come together can.”
Ms Dainer said last month’s Narooma meeting attracted 15 women.
“There was a lot of passion about wanting the council to be more engaging, to actually hear people,” she said.
“They would really like to have more women on the council.”
The meeting this Friday will be held at the Moruya Golf Club from 11.45am for a noon start.
Next Friday’s meeting, on August 14, will be held at the Batemans Bay Soldiers Club, from 11.45am for a noon start.
Attendees are encouraged to bring ideas and share them over a meal at the table with a vase of flowers on it.
