The march was one of nine known as the snowballing recruitment marches.
Spokesperson for the Delegate Progress Association, Ian Sellers said that the marches were one of the most important historical events in Australia’s short history.
“The march has been split into two components, the urban march and ceremony and the historical march.
“Urban marches are where we have involved Schools, RSL’s and community groups.
“As the original group passed through each town on their way from Delegate to Goulburn (on foot) they were treated to civic receptions, entertainment and lavish ‘suppers’,” Mr Sellers said.
“We have organised a parade and receptions in all the remaining towns along the route,” he said.
There is an event brief at the Bredbo Inn Tuesday October 13 at 11am.
Along with the briefing we will have detailed maps, representatives of all towns some in period costume, the replica banner, members of The Bemboka 7th Light Horse in full dress and members of the Snowy Mob Children’s choir.
The Delegate Progress Association are working closely with groups in Bombala, Nimmitabel, Cooma, Bredbo, Michelago, Queanbeyan, Bungendore, Tarago, and Goulburn to re enactment and commemorate The Men From Snowy River March.
People are invited to join in the parade with a pickup bus organised for those who may need it.
It will be a unique opportunity to carry the flag, sing, whistle, reflect and remember those young men who passed along almost the same route 100 years ago.
The Snowy Mob will be singing songs written at the time for and in some cases by the marchers.
The Snowy Mob is a children’s choir. Part of the larger Children’s Commemorative choir founded by members of the Kangaroos’ and supported by the NSW State RSL
The itinerary for the parade is Delegate on November 1 with an 11am start, light lunch and brief ceremony at the School of Arts hosted by the Delegate RSL Sub Branch and then the parade leaves for Craigie.
The parade will arrive from Craigie in Bombala on Tuesday, November 3 and form up at the bridge end of the park; March down Apex Park to centenary of ANZAC memorial sculpture. Bombala Council will host a ceremony and lunch.
The march will then travel to Nimmitabel and Bibbenluke on November 4 with breakfast at the Bibbenluke Hall before the historic march to Nimmitabel showground .
On Thursday the parade will form up at Cooma Showground and march to the cenotaph for a ceremony. On Friday the fourth historic marching section will walk to Bredbo stopping at the outstation at Dromore.
