He went to his flathead spot and was fishing soft plastics using his 7ft 2-4kg rod with 6lb braid with 12lb leader and a 1000-series Shimano reel.
Steven had to chase it for about 20 minutes with the electric motor, before landing it. He thought it was a big flathead because it was shaking a lot on the light outfit.
“I was fishing on my own, the line took off, so one-handed, I brought in the anchor in and put the electric down and the chase was on,” Steven tells us. “15 to 20 minutes later landed my first mulloway.”
The fish went just over 1-meter long, even Darren from ocean hut had to measure it for himself, and the weight was 18 pounds.
Well done a a great effort considering you fought it by youself!
